Tour 1: Highlands and Isle of Skye
Day One (Wednesday 8 September): To the Spey Valley
Depart from Glasgow after lunch taking the main road north. Five miles north of Pitlochry, we will visit Blair Castle, home of the Duke of Atholl and ancestral home of the Clan Murray. This magnificent baronial castle is set in extensive grounds. The landscape changes into wild mountain vistas as we climb over the Drumochter Pass into the Spey Valley. A visit to a malt whisky distillery, with a demonstration of how the nectar is produced as well as a chance to taste it, will feature in today's programme. Dinner and overnight stay will be in Aviemore.Day Two (Thursday 9 September): Isle of Skye Excursion
The journey today will be by way of lonely Achnasheen and through dramatic Glen Carron, then "over the sea to Skye". Discover the story of Highland life at Aros, the Skye Heritage Centre, and enjoy a stroll in Portree, the island's pretty main town. Back on the mainland, we will stop at Eilean Donan Castle, before continuing via Loch Ness back to Aviemore for dinner and overnight stop.Day Three (Friday 10 September): To Glasgow
After breakfast, enjoy the spectacular drive through Glen Spean to Fort William nestling in the shadow of Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain. The Massacre of Glencoe is recalled in Glencoe, where in 1692 Campbell soldiers slaughtered their unsuspecting hosts of the MacDonald clan. The drive through Rannoch Moor, splendidly austere, brings us to Loch Lomond, where a cruise on this beautiful loch completes the itinerary before returning to Glasgow.Cost:
