All tours will depart from and return to the Austria Center, unless otherwise stated, and will be accompanied by an English speaking guide.
Accompanying persons' programme tours can be booked on the accommodation & optional tours reservation form.
Each sightseeing tour requires a minimum number of 25 participants. The Organisers reserve the right to cancel tours due to insufficient support. If a tour is cancelled due to lack of support, a full refund will be made or transfer to an alternative tour wil be offered and any necessary payment adjustment made on site. Unfortunately, it is not possible to refund tickets in the case of cancellation or failure to arrive on time.
Cancellation of booked tours must be addressed in writing to AUSTROPA Interconvention. Cancellations will be accepted up to 1 September, refunds will not be made after this date. All refunds will be made after the meeting.

Accompanying persons should indicate their choice of inclusive tour on the Registration Form. If there is no indication given on the form, a ticket will not be reserved.
Monday 13 October and Tuesday 14 October:
Historical Vienna and Schönbrunn Palace: Departure at 09:00; Duration: 3.5 hours
To provide you with a first impression of the City, we start our tour at Ringstrasse.
This boulevard was created in the course of the city's first expansion in the middle of the 19th century on the area of the former Glacis. We will see buildings such as the Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Natural History, the City Hall, the Burgtheater, the Parliament, the University, and many more. The highlight of our excursion is a tour through Schönbrunn Palace, the summer residence of the former Imperial House of Austria.

Saturday 11 October
Vienna Woods-Subterranean Lake: Departure at 14:00; Duration 4 hours
A tour which shows you the most beautiful sights of the southern part of the Vienna Woods. Firstly, you will pass through the Roman City of Baden which is famous for its thermal springs. The tour then continues to the romantic valley of Helenental and the former Mayerling hunting lodge, today a commemorative chapel, where the Crown Prince Rudolph, the only son of Emperor Franz Joseph, committed suicide with Baronesse Vetsera in 1889. In the Cistercian Abbey of Heiligenkreuz (1133) you will visit the medieval cloister, which houses the remains of the last Babenberger. Driving by the Höldrichsmühle, where Frans Schubert composed his song, The Lindentree, you arrive at the Seegrotte. From there, after a boat ride on the largest subterranean lake in Europe, you return to Vienna, passing the Liechtenstein Castle.

Sunday 12 October
Romantic Danuble Valley - "Wachau": Departure at 09:00; Duration 9 hours
We start our tour by bus to the Wachau, the romantic Danuble valley situated outside Vienna. Our first destination is Melk, where we visit the Baroque monastery and admire the view of the Danube. After lunch we go on a boat trip on the Danube, which takes us from Lelk to Spitz passing the town of Dürnstein with its Kuenringer castle, where 800 years ago King Richard I Lionheart was held prisoner. We continue by bus to where you will have the opportunity to take a look at the medieval town centre with numerous churches adorned with frescos by the Baroque painter "Kremser Schmidt". We will then return to Vienna.

Monday 13 October
Life at the Viennese Court: Departure from Josefsplatz at 14:00; Duration 2 hours
This city walk begins with a tour through the Imperial Palace, the winter residence of the Imperial family where you will be shown both the former office and private apartments of Emperor Franz Josef and his wife, Empress Elisabeth. You will also visit the Silver Chamber where the valuable silver tableware and service, used by the Imperial family on a daily basis, is exhibited.

Tuesday 14 October
Walk through the "Old Vienna": Departure from Josefsplatz at 09:00; Duration 2 hours
This walk will allow you to see parts of old Vienna, which you wouldn't necessarily be shown during a normal sightseeing tour. Starting at Josefsplatz, our walk takes us past the Imperial Palace, the winter residence of the Imperial family. After passing St. Stephen's cathedral with its numerous cultural and historical highlights we reach Figaro House, where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived and compsed his opera "The Marriage of Figaro". You will be shown Mozart's living quarters. Finally we reach the oldest part of Vienna where you can see Ruprechtskirche, which is assumed to be the oldest church in Vienna.

Tuesday 14 October
On the Trails of Great Musicians: Departure at 14:00; Duration 3 hours
This tour takes you to the historic memorial places of famous musicians who used to live and work in Vienna. Past Pasqualatihaus at Mölk Bastion, where a Beethoven memorial is located, we continue to Nussdorfer Strasse, where we visit Franz Schubert's birthplace and the adjoining Schubert Museum. After driving past "Eroicahaus" we reach Heiligenstadt where we take a tour through Beethoven's apartments in No. 6, Probusgasse, where the "Heiligenstädter Testament" was created. Finally we drive along the "Small Danube" to St. Marx Cemetery and visit Mozart's grave. The route back to the city centre takes us past Waisenhauskirche (orphanage church), where, in 1768, Mozart at the age of 12 compsed and conducted a festival mass on the occasion of the church's inauguration.

Wednesday 15 October
The History of the White Horses: Departure from Josefsplatz at 09:00; Duration 2 hours
The History of Vienna's Spanish Riding School dates back to the middle of the 16th century. YOu can admire the origins of this century-old tradition in the Lippizaner museum which is housed in the building of the former royal imperial pharmacy.
There is also a window in the museum, which offers a direct view of the stables.
The highlight of the tour is the attendance of the morning exercise in the hall of the Winter Riding School which was built by the Austrian architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach.

PRE MEETING TOUR
Friday 10 - Saturday 11 October: Salzburg - The City of Mozart
Departure at 08:00; 10 October; Duration 2 days
This tour takes you throug the Salzkammergut region with its Wolfgangsee lake to Salzburg, the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The afternoon of the first day includes a tour through Mirabell Palace with its beautiful gardens. The time remaining until supper is to be spent at your own leisure. In the evening, we willtreat you to local culinary specialties in a typical restaurant. The morning of the second day features a walk through the old city, where you will visit Mozart's birthplace in well-known Getreidegasse, the famous cathedral, the Festival Hall, and numerous other sights. After a quick lucnh the tour continues to Hellbrunn, where you will see the famous castle with its trick fountains. After that, we will return to Vienna.

Please note that the Opera programme will not be published until the summer of 2003 and that a 25 % advance booking fee per ticket will be charged. All tickets subject to a availability.

Full payment in advance will be necessary for tour vouchers and cultural tickets.
On receipt of your payment, you will be sent a confirmation of your booking. Lost or misplaced tickets cannot be replaced. All optional tour vouchers and cultural tickets will be handed out at the Social Desk at the Austria Center.

PRE-MEETING GOLF TOURNAMENT

The annual Europe vs North America Golf tournament will be organised again in Vienna at
The Schönborn Castle Golf Course

This 18 hole golf course is located in the park of the Schönborn Castle. The course has won international reputation by being listed in 'The Finest Golf Courses of the World' and competes with classical golf courses in the United Kingdom and US. In 1997 it was ranked as the best golf course in Austria by the 'Golfrevue' readers.
The park of the Schönborn Castle has an old forest which provides a real challenge. The enormous oak tree in the middle of the 18th is particularly challenging. The greens are well undulated and fast. Bunkers are several.
Shoes with soft spikes only are allowed on the golf course.
