BECOME AN EACTS MEMBER
Thank you for your interest in THE EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION FOR CARDIO-THORACIC SURGERY (EACTS). While each of our members is unique, one thing they all have in common is a thirst for knowledge and they rely on the EACTS to deliver it. When you become a member of EACTS, you enter into a mutually beneficial agreement to actively cultivate the objectives of EACTS and to work closely with EACTS to associate all medical and non-medical staff involved in all aspects of cardiac, thoracic and vascular interventions. Consequently, EACTS looks for members that are leaders in their fields. With this depth and breadth of content and networking opportunities the EACTS membership provides excellent opportunities. Membership provides access to a network of knowledge and the opportunity to develop your own expertise and share this with fellow professionals.

Membership shall be accorded to all medical and non-medical professionals involved directly or indirectly in cardiac, thoracic or vascular interventions and who have fulfilled the membership requirements. All members shall have voting rights. |

* Resident/Trainee Membership Fee is for a maximum of five years. Applicants are obliged to state the expected date when specialty training will be completed. From that year on they will automatically pay the regular Membership Fee. To apply for resident/trainee membership fee a letter from the head of department that states that the applicant is in training is necessary.
WHAT DOES THE RECIPROCAL MEMBERSHIP ARRANGEMENT WITH STS COVER?
STS (Society of Thoracic Surgeons) Members Seeking EACTS Membership:
As a reciprocal recognition between the STS and EACTS, any Active, International or Candidate member of STS wishing to become a member of EACTS may apply. STS members seeking EACTS membership need only submit a completed EACTS membership application. Any initiation fee will be waived for those STS members who are admitted to EACTS membership.

EACTS Members Seeking STS Membership
A) Any individual who became an EACTS member in 2008 or before will remain eligible to apply for STS membership utilizing the process that has been in place for the past 2 years. This means that they simply need to complete an STS application and provide a copy of their CV. The STS Membership Committee will submit these individuals’ names to the STS membership for consideration without vetting the applications further. Once elected to STS membership, the initiation fee for these individuals will be waived by the STS.
B) Any individual who becomes an EACTS member after 2008 will need to submit a completed STS membership application, their CV and three letters of sponsorship from STS members. Their applications will be thoroughly vetted by the STS Membership Committee prior to their names being submitted to the STS membership for consideration. The initiation fee will be waived for those EACTS members who are elected to STS membership.

Before you start your application:
Please ensure that you have read this page and that you have your credit/debit card details to hand. If you are applying for Resident/Trainee Membership please ensure that you have the end date of your training.
IF YOU HAVE REGISTERED PREVIOUSLY ON THE WEBSITE, THEN PLEASE LOG IN AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER TO AVOID DUPLICATING YOUR RECORD. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW YOUR USER ID AND PASSWORD, YOU MAY REQUEST A REMINDER.

Please go straight to “Create New Account” which will bring up a screen where you need to fill in your “Personal Details”.
PLEASE NOTE: FIELDS MARKED WITH AN ASTERISK MUST BE COMPLETED
After you have completed your personal details, please press “next” which will bring up the next screen, “Special Fields of Interest”.
After you have selected your Special Fields of Interest, please press “next” again which will bring up the next screen, “Login Data”.
Here you can create your own User ID and Password (please remember those for future reference). The following process needs to be carried out in order to appropriately proceed with your registration:

You have now created your personalised EACTS account:
Out of the various options available, please click on “Become a Member” (Apply for EACTS Membership); this will bring up the next screen, “My Membership”.
Please make the appropriate choices and finalise your membership.
You will now receive two emails from us:
1. EACTS – Member subscription confirmation
confirming receipt of your application and information that your invoice is available
Trainee applicants are reminded that a letter from head of department is needed confirming applicant’s status
2. EACTS – Login Data
confirmation of the User ID and Password that you have created
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I HAVE APPLIED FOR EACTS MEMBERSHIP?
REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS
Step 1:
Completed applications must be received by the EACTS Secretariat no later than 1 July. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Step 2:
Temporary membership can be granted, pending approval by the General Assembly.
Step 3:
You will be registered as a ‘temporary/applicant member’.
Step 4:
Your EACTS membership subscription is now due for payment.
Your invoice for the membership subscription can be found in your personal EACTS User Area. You are able to view and/or print the invoice for your records (Confirmations/Invoices/Receipts – your personal payment confirmation). Payment can be made by credit card using the secure and encrypted payment system. Bank Transfers are also accepted - details will be found on your invoice. Cheques will NOT be accepted and will be returned.
Please note that you will NOT be able to register to the EACTS Annual Meeting and receive the Member Discounted fees unless your member subscription has been paid.
Step 5:
After payment you will be added to the circulation list of the EJCTS and you will receive all issues as well as electronic access.
Step 6:
In addition you will receive printed copies of the ICVTS (see www.icvts.org), EACTS second journal which is also published monthly.
Step 7:
Temporary Membership Number, User ID and password which will give full text access to the European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery will be sent separately as soon as we have them set up.
Step 8:
The EACTS Secretariat will collate all applications. The list of members to be elected will be presented to the Annual Meeting for approval by all members.
Step 9:
A three-fourths vote of those present and voting shall be required to elect a member.
Step 10:
The final approval of all new membership applications will take place in conjunction with the EACTS Meeting in the autumn.
PLEASE NOTE
Given the procedures outlined above, an applicant does not become a full member of EACTS until after the next Annual Meeting.
WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS WHEN I RETIRE?

Members reaching the age of 65 years (or who retire from active practice at an earlier age) shall automatically become a Senior Member. They do not need to pay the membership fee anymore. |

If still interested to receive the journals they continue to pay the normal Annual Fee. |
HOW DO I DISCONTINUE MEMBERSHIP?
Any member may voluntarily resign from membership. The Council acting as Board of Censors, may remove a member on the grounds of professional or ethical misconduct, after giving such a member ample opportunity to appear an or appeal on his own behalf. Any member whose dues are in arrears for two years will have his membership terminated. Upon payment of his arrears a member may be reinstated by simple action of the Secretary General.
