This is the first in a series of three “Fundamentals in Cardiac Surgery” courses being held at EACTS House in Windsor in 2020.
The course and accompanying wetlab will cover all aspects of coronary artery surgery, aortic valve replacement and aortic root surgery.

Introduction to Aortic Surgery

Covering the major aspects of aortic surgery, from the aortic valve to the descending aorta. Special attention will be devoted to the various options in sparing the aortic valve and on the modern approach to aortic arch surgery. Guidance will be available for those cardiac surgeons wishing to embark upon an endovascular programme.  This year’s course will include a TEVAR simulation session as well as a wetlab covering aortic root enlargement, re-implantation and re-modelling procedure, in addition to a drylab with hands-on simulation training on aortic arch surgery simulator.

Basic principles of cardiac surgery part II. The course will encompass the essentials in aortic surgery, congenital cardiac surgery and the surgery of heart and lung failure including mechanical circulatory support.
The Thursday of the course will offer expert hands-on wetlab training.
