Amir Sadeghi

Amir H. Sadeghi (MD, PhD) is a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon, affiliated with the department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at University Medical Center Utrecht, the Netherlands. He received his surgical training at the Erasmus Medical Center (Rotterdam) and Isala (Zwolle) and obtained his PhD degree on the application of virtual reality technology in both pre-operative planning and simulations. Dr. Sadeghi is a board member of the Dutch Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery and is an active member in various (inter)national committees and boards such as the EACTS AI/Immersive/Digital Technology and Robotic Surgery committees/taskforce. He is also co-inventor of an AI-based platform (PulmoVR / Surgical Reality Viewer) that enables advanced pre-operative planning for cardiothoracic surgery.

Dr Sadeghi’s surgical interest and expertise extend to mitral valve surgery, robot-assisted thoracic surgery, heart and lung transplantations, and general cardiac surgery including valve replacements and (total arterial) coronary revascularization. His research focuses on integrating exponential technologies like extended reality, computer vision, and deep learning (AI) to improve pre-operative planning and intra-operative guidance for minimally invasive cardiothoracic surgeries.
