Antonio Loforte

Prof. Loforte is senior surgeon and chair of the Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) program at the Department of Surgical Sciences, University of Turin, City of Health and Science Hospital Turin, Cardiac Surgery University Unit, Turin, Italy.

He completed his cardiothoracic surgery training at the University of Bologna, S. Orsola University Hospital (Italy), at S. Camillo-Forlanini Hospital, Rome (Italy), at St. Antonius Ziekenhuis, Nieuwegein (the Netherlands) and the Deutsches Herzzentrum Berlin (Germany). He additionally joined Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, Division of Transplant and Assist Devices, and Danton Cooley Department of Surgery, Texas Heart Institute, as well, in Houston, USA.

Dr. Loforte is active member of several professional organizations including the prestigious EACTS, STS, ISHLT, ASAIO, ISMCS, RHICS, ELSO, ESOT, among others. His scientific research and publications focus mostly on Heart Transplantation and MCS issues. Thus, he received a ‘European Ph.D. label’ in Organ Transplantation and several awards in Europe and USA.

He serves as a reviewer for several international Journals and is part of the editorial board in 10 of them. He is Associate Editor for Artificial Organs ‘Implantable MCS Section’.

He served the ISHLT ‘Standard and Guidelines’ committee (HLTx and MCS), and he is currently member of the ISHLT Cardiogenic Shock Task Force and ISHLT MCS operative committee. Additionally, he belongs to the EACTS/STS/AATS  ‘t-MCS and d-MCS Consensus and Guidelines’ task force.

Recently, Dr. Loforte has been appointed as President of the International Society of Mechanical Circulatory Support (ISMCS, formerly ISRBP) and Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Turin, Italy.
