Aron Kristof Ghimessy

Áron Kristóf Ghimessy, MD, PhD, MBA, FEBTS is Head of the Department of Thoracic Surgery, Director of the Robotic Surgery Program, and Deputy Chief Medical Officer at the National Institute of Oncology in Budapest, Hungary. He graduated from Semmelweis University with his medical degree in 2014, completed his thoracic surgery residency in 2020, and earned his PhD summa cum laude for research on antiangiogenic therapy in lung adenocarcinoma. He subsequently obtained an MBA in Healthcare Management in 2023 and completed the Clinical Science Scholar Program at Harvard Medical School in 2024. Dr. Ghimessy became a Fellow of the European Board of Thoracic Surgeons (FEBTS) in 2023 and holds advanced robotic surgical certifications from Intuitive Surgical (TR200 and TR300). Since 2023, he has led his institution’s robotic thoracic surgery program, performing complex minimally invasive procedures including RATS and VATS lobectomies, segmentectomies, mediastinal surgery, and lung transplantation. He serves as an authorized European robotic surgery proctor and has coordinated international postgraduate thoracic surgery courses since 2016. His current research interests include robotic and minimally invasive techniques, neoadjuvant oncologic treatment, post-transplant outcomes, and surgical innovation.
