Ivan Aleksic

Ivan Aleksić graduated from Georg-August-University Medical School Göttingen, Germany in December 1989. He finished his residency at the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in Göttingen in 2000. The training was interrupted by a research fellowship with the heart transplant program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, from 1993 until 1994.

He completed his PhD in January 2002 and became staff surgeon at the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, University Hospital Essen in June 2002. The new hospital provided deep immersion into the area of lung transplantation at one of the largest lung transplant centers in Germany.

In 2007 he became assistant medical director of the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the University Hospital Würzburg, Germany. Starting 2017 he served as deputy director of the division of thoracic surgery and became director of the division in June 2020. His main interests focus on thoracic trauma, chest wall tumors and oncologic thoracic surgery.

He has been an EACTS member since 1999.
