Kan Chan Siang
Dr. Kan Chan Siang, MRCS, FRCS (CTh) Edinburgh
Head of Thoracic Surgery, Hospital Sultan Idris Shah, Serdang, Malaysia
Dr. Kan Chan Siang is a cardiothoracic surgeon and Francis Fontan Fellow with a strong focus on thoracic oncology and minimally invasive thoracic surgery. He currently leads the Thoracic Division at Hospital Sultan Idris Shah, Malaysia’s largest cardiothoracic centre under the Ministry of Health, where he spearheads service expansion and innovation in thoracic and lung transplantation surgery.
A Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Dr. Kan completed advanced training at Asan Medical Center (South Korea) and Shanghai Chest Hospital (China) under the prestigious EACTS Francis Fontan Fund. He is also a council member of the Malaysian Association for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (MATCVS, 2025–2027) and part of the leadership teams of the Asian Thoracic Academy (ATA) and the Asian Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS).
A two-time recipient of the MATCVS Young Investigator Award, Dr. Kan is recognised for his academic contributions and mentorship in the FRCS Cardiothoracic Parallel Pathway Malaysia. His aspiration is to establish a national Centre of Excellence for Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery and Lung Transplantation, advancing the field through innovation, education, and international collaboration.
