Alessandro Leone

Alessandro Leone graduated in 2006 as a medical doctor at the ALMA MATER Bologna University. He graduated as a cardiac surgeon in 2011. During his residency in cardiac surgery, Alessandro carried out a fellowship at the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, St. Antonious Ziekenhuis, Nieuwegein, Netherlands. In 2012, Alessandro spent one year at the Medizinische Hochschule Hannover with Prof. A. Haverich and Prof. Malakh Lal Shrestha focusing his interests on Frozen elephant trunk technique and minimally invasive aortic root surgery. In 2021 he obtained his PhD in “Disciplines in Thoracic-Cardiac-Vascular Surgery” at the University of Bologna focusing his study on “Neurological deficits after antegrade cerebral perfusion during aortic arch surgery”.

In 2022, Alessandro concluded a Fellowship in Paris at Jacques Cartier Private Hospital focussing mainly on TAVI procedures. Currently he is a staff member as senior surgeon at the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the Bologna University Hospital. His areas of interest are Valve Surgery, Aortic root and arch surgery, Cerebral Protection, Aortic Dissection, transcatheter procedures, Minimally Invasive Surgery and Heart Transplantation. He is an active member of SICCH, EACTS, ANMCO.
