The EACTS Quality Improvement Programme (QUIP) empowers our members and the wider surgical community to make a tangible difference in patient care by providing the tools and insights necessary for continuous improvement of clinical outcomes.

We are proud to be at the intersection of knowledge, innovation and research, leading the way toward a brighter future for cardiothoracic surgery and a better outcome for patients.

QUIP informs best practice and promotes the importance of integrating quality improvement initiatives into daily clinical practice. It enables our members to:

  • Compare and benchmark hospital data from across Europe.
  • Measure the outcomes of that data using statistical tools and download bespoke reports.
  • Identify areas of improvement in clinical practice, helping to improve patient outcomes.

Collaborative data registries

QUIP offers two international databases, the Adult Cardiac Database (ACD) and the European Registry for Patients with Mechanical Circulatory Support (EUROMACS).

The Adult Cardiac Database

The Adult Cardiac Database (ACD) is a collaborative registry and benchmarking tool of cardiac surgical data for centres across Europe, supporting the development of evidence-based guidelines to improve pre- and post-operative care.

EUROMACS

EUROMACS offers the tools to collect clinical procedural updates and scientific data for patients receiving Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS), informing clinical practice through benchmarking and outcome monitoring.

“We have a huge opportunity to work together on a European level to improve outcomes for patients. I encourage national registries, professional associations and hospitals to collaborate for the purpose of quality improvement by contributing data to our databases.”

Edgar Daeter, M.D., Chair of the QUIP Committee
