Ben Shanahan
Ben is a Resident on the Irish Higher Surgical Training Scheme (HST) in Cardiothoracic Surgery, with a special interest in Lung Volume Reduction, Lung Transplantation and Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery. He obtained his primary medical degree from University College Dublin in 2017, and his MD by research from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2020, for work focusing on economic evaluations in thoracic surgery. He went on to train in both Ireland and the UK, with extensive exposure to endobronchial and surgical lung volume reduction in both countries. He is delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the EACTS Emphysema Taskforce as the resident member, and looks forward to the opportunity to improve the quality of care delivered to emphysema patients across Europe.
