Didier Lardinois
Professor Didier Lardinois is since November 2007 chief of Department of Thoracic Surgery at the University Hospital Basel, Switzerland. After completing his medicine stadium in Brussel, he moved to Switzerland. He obtained the FMH (Swiss Medical Association) title in Surgery in 1999, the European Board for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons in London in 2000. Between 2000 and 2007, he was active in the Lung Transplant Program of the University Hospital Zurich, obtained the title of Academic Lecturer for Surgery (Privatdozent) and the FMH title for Thoracic Surgery in 2004. He received the Brompton Award at the 2nd EACTS/ESTS Joint Meeting in Vienna 2003. As Committees, he was regents (ESTS), President SAKK (Swiss Lung Cancer Group), Co-Organizer ESTS Spring Meeting, Co-Organizer ESTS Workshop on mediastinal staging, Lecturer ESTS School of Thoracic Surgery, Ad Hoc Committee ESTS, Educational Program ESTS, ESTS Committee for Learning Affairs. For the past 2 years, he has been the head of the Lung Center at the University Hospital Basel. He is member of several reputed scientific societies. His main centres of interest in thoracic surgery are the surgery of lung cancer and the mediastinal staging, the minimally invasive surgery, the surgery of emphysema and the management of patients with blunt chest trauma. His other research interests f4ocus on developing new approaches to enhance treatment quality and patient outcomes. He is the organizer of the Workshop on Current Concepts of Chest Wall Stabilization and Reconstruction, a scientific platform presenting the most important systems for rib and sternum osteosynthesis as well as for reconstruction of the chest wall.
