Erino Rendina

Professor Erino Rendina obtained his MD degree and Board Certification in Thoracic Surgery at “Sapienza” University of Rome with commendation. He also received postgraduate training in the USA, Japan, France, Germany and UK. He has been the Professor and Chairman of Thoracic Surgery  at University “Sapienza” of Rome since 2005 and Chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery at Sant’Andrea Hospital in Rome since 2003. Erino is the Chairman of the Department of Clinical and Surgical Translational Medicine of Sapienza University, Rome. As well as being a member of the Research Commission of Sapienza University, Rome, Erino has been Visiting Professor at Harvard University, Washington University, Pittsburgh, Hong Kong, Osaka, Toronto and many other Universities all over the world.

Erino was Past President of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery (2008), and Associate Editor of the European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery from 2003 to 2014. He is the Author of over 320 papers in Peer Reviewed Journals (IF> 800; h-Index 36). Erino is the first Italian Author of a Chapter in an American Textbook of Thoracic Surgery (Pearson Thoracic Surgery, 2002), and first Italian thoracic surgeon member of the AATS (2000) since its foundation in 1917.

The first graduate in the Residency programme in Thoracic Surgery under his supervision, performed 1.203 procedures (341 as first operator) and authored 20 papers in peer reviewed journals (IF 56; h-Index 5). He performed the first Lung Transplant in Italy at the age of 32 years, January 11th 1991; since then he performed more than 70 single and bilateral transplantation procedures. He chairs the Division of Thoracic Surgery at Sant’Andrea Hospital since January 2003, where over 1.100 major procedures are performed yearly. Among these, reconstruction of the trachea, Superior Vena Cava, carina, bronchi and pulmonary artery (largest experience in the world) are performed.
