Jose Luis Merino

Dr. Jose Luis Merino serves as the Director of the Arrhythmia and Robotic Electrophysiology Unit at La Paz University Hospital in Madrid and holds a professorship in Cardiology at the Autonoma University of Madrid. Notably, he is the 2022-2024 president of the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA), ascending to this role after holding various key positions including Secretary and Chair of several EHRA Committees. Additionally, he is a board member of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and has contributed significantly in various capacities. His past leadership roles include Secretary (2000-2002) and President (2003-2006) of the Working Group on Arrhythmia of the Spanish Society of Cardiology. Dr. Merino’s research primarily focuses on the invasive treatment of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, as well as the development of antiarrhythmic drugs and anticoagulants. His academic contributions include authorship of over 5 books and more than 200 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals.
