Jutta Arens

Jutta Arens is a mechanical engineer and professor in Engineering Organ Support Technologies at the University of Twente, The Netherlands, with focus on developing novel medical devices for cardiopulmonary and renal support therapies. She has been cooperating with partners from medical, natural, and engineering sciences and industry to address the diverse issues that arise from artificial organs in contact with blood. She contributes to standardization (NEN and ISO) at national and international level for the testing and approval of artificial organs to ensure patient safety. She is member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices, the EACTS Innovation Committee, the EuroELSO Innovation Group and the EuroELSO Scientific Committee. She is co-editor and co-author of the recently published 2nd edition of the `Mechanical Circulatory and Respiratory Support´ textbook.
