Lawrence Okiror

Lawrence is a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London, UK. He completed his basic surgical training in London. He followed this with cardiothoracic rotations at The Royal Brompton and Guy’s Hospitals in London before he was appointed to a National Training post on the West Midlands Cardiothoracic rotation. In the West Midlands, he trained in Birmingham and Coventry.
He is a clinical tutor for medical students in their 2nd and 3rd years at King’s College London. He is a clinical supervisor for trainees in cardiothoracic surgery on the London Rotation and is on the faculty of various national and international courses in cardiothoracic surgery. He is also a member of faculty of clinical courses for trainees in anaesthetics and respiratory medicine. He receives several students and trainees from Europe keen on developing their skills in all aspects of thoracic surgery.
He is a fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of England and of Edinburgh. He sits on the Surgical Specialty Board in Cardiothoracic Surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh where he leads the cardiothoracic surgery robotics advisory panel.
Lawrence is an examiner with the UK Intercollegiate Board in Cardiothoracic Surgery and the European Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
His areas of expertise include minimally-invasive surgery (robotic and VATS), surgery for mesothelioma, extended resections for thoracic malignancies. He leads the central airways service at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and works closely with colleagues to manage patients with some of the most complex airway problems.
He is service lead for lung volume reduction & offers both surgery and endobronchial therapies for advanced emphysema.
He has publishes >30 peer-reviewed papers in leading journals in thoracic surgery and authored a number of book chapters in reference textbooks in thoracic surgery.
