Roberto Lorusso

Roberto Lorusso trained in cardiac surgery in Brescia, Italy, and had fellowships at the Maastricht University Medical Centre and at the University of Leuven.  He is currently Associate Professor at the Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Department of the Maastricht University Medical Centre.  He has a PhD on alternative techniques for chronic cardiomyopathy, master degrees on Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery and in Health Care Management.  Roberto won the Young Investigator Award by the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery in 1995.  From 2009 to 2012, he was the Director of the School of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery in Bergamo, Italy.  His interests are mechanical circulatory support, minimally invasive valve surgery, coronary surgery, preclinical and clinical research (Principal Investigator of several multicentre international studies like PERSIST- AVR, ISTMIR, ECLS in Post-Cardiotomy, and others).  Roberto has almost 250 publications in peer-reviewed journals, almost 300 presentations at international meetings, previously Scientific Secretary of the Italian Society for Cardiac Surgery, President of the Euro-ELSO organization, and currently coeditor-in-chief of the MultiMedia Manual of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (MMCTS).
