Thorsten Hanke
Thorsten Hanke, MD, Profoessor for Cardiac Surgery at the University of Luebeck, qualified from Free University Berlin in 1995. He was appointed Consultant Cardiac Surgeon to the University Clinic for Cardiac and Thoracic Vascular Surgery at the University Clinic Schleswig-Holstein, Luebeck, Germany in 2007. After this time he set up the cardiac surgery electrophysiology unit and arrhythmia services as well as the outpatient clinic. In 2016, Prof. Dr. Hanke moved to the Asklepios Klinikum Harburg in Hamburg Germany, and has started a new arrhythmia program in this hospital. In 2022, he became Head of Department in the same clinic. In 2025, he moved to the Albertinen Krankenhaus Hamburg, Germany as Head of Department of the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery. His specialist interests, as well as scientific research, are in the treatment of atrial and ventricular arrhythmia’s including concomitant and stand-alone cryo and radio frequency ablation. Since 2024, he has been elected as the Head of the Arrhythmia Task Force from the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS). Together with 2 other surgical colleagues, he had the honour to be part of the 2024 ESC/EACTS AF guidelines committee.
