Course Overview

Surgical infected wounds are a anyone worst nightmare, patient’s recovery is affected by weeks or months of dressings and antibiotics, impacting in their quality of life. For clinicians is delay in discharge, increase length of stay and even in the worst cases further surgery with debridement or major plastic surgery.

Most centres reduce the risk of infection with minimally invasive techniques, prophylaxis antibiotics and other products prior surgery but in some cases due to the complex risk factors of patients some will develop a wound infection.

We will discuss treatments with topical active dressing versus more aggressive initial debridement, common pathological organisms and potential treatment and when is best to contact plastic surgery advice.
