Pragmatic Clinical Trials Fellowship in partnership with Weill Cornell Medicine
Fellowship Overview
This fellowship will include theoretical training in pragmatic clinical trial design and statistics as well as clinical epidemiology (through the MS in Clinical Epidemiology) and hands-on experience in pragmatic clinical trial management (by working with the Cornell Clinical Trials Unit).

- EU and US regulations for RCTs
- ITT vs non-ITT methods
- Methods to account for low protocol adherence
- Sample estimates using the win ratio and other hierarchical methods
- Conventional and adaptive trials
Funding
To help with costs associated with this Fellowship, we offer a grant of €3,000 towards travel to and from the USA. The fellow will also receive a yearly research fellow salary paid by Cornell Medicine. In addition, EACTS will provide a bursary towards the cost of your attendance at the 2026 EACTS Annual Meeting.
Application and Selection
In order to apply for this fellowship there are some essential criteria you must meet:
- Be in your last year of training or have completed training, with previous research experience and a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Be an EACTS member with up-to-date membership payment
- Be fluent in English

- Previous engagement with EACTS will be valued
In order to complete your application, you must submit the following documents*:
- Two letters of support from mentors
- Letter of interest (detailing the way in which you meet the application criteria, your career aspirations along with how you are in a position to apply the skills and knowledge obtained during the Fellowship in your own centre and how it will impact your career)

Evaluation and Feedback
There will be periodic meetings with the Fellowship Director to ensure feedback from the trainee. A structured evaluation of the activities and feedback from the Fellow will also be developed. Fellows will produce a full report on their experience based on guidelines stipulated by the Francis Fontan Fund Committee at the end of the Fellowship.
