The WiCTS Committee is made up of EACTS members across Europe who believe in gender equality and fairer opportunities for women in cardiothoracic surgery.

The WiCTS Committee is an organisational committee of the EACTS Council and reports and recommends directly to the Council via the Committee Chair through the Secretary General. The Chair of the WiCTS Committee is appointed by the EACTS Council for an initial term of 3 years, renewable for a second term of 3 years.

Goals

It is our purpose to:

  • Inspire more women to fulfil their surgical career ambitions. We want to promote diversity and equality within our association and spread awareness of the importance gender equality, by ensuring greater representation of women in scientific sessions at the Annual Meeting and on different organisational levels within EACTS.
  • Provide mentorship for women in cardiothoracic surgery and support through career development, subspecialty training, research and academia.
  • Actively encourage women to participate in cardiothoracic surgery by enhancing women’s educational and career development opportunities through the EACTS Annual Meeting, EACTS Academy, research opportunities, and fellowships.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and other organisations who play an incremental role in promoting gender equality.

Committee Chair: Indu Deglurkar

It is a privilege and honour to contribute to the development of the EACTS Women in Cardiothoracic Surgery Committee. Driving equality and diversity in cardiothoracic surgery is an enormous responsibility but it is also a great opportunity to shape and strengthen the committee and empower more women surgeons to take up leadership and executive positions.

Indu Deglurkar, WiCTS Committee Chair, 2023-2026
