34th EACTS Annual Meeting

2020 is a year like no other. The cardiothoracic community has played an important part in tackling COVID-19 and many of you have made personal sacrifices in order to support patients on the frontline. This year – more than ever – the EACTS Annual Meeting is an opportunity for the cardiothoracic community to come together in friendship, solidarity and collaboration.

Registration is now open for the 34th EACTS Annual Meeting, which takes place between 8-10 October in the metropolitan city of Barcelona.

The EACTS Annual Meeting adapted for our times

The impact of COVID-19 has changed our world considerably. Our primary concern will be the health and safety of all delegates and exhibitors. We will be adapting the way we run the event so that important measures such as social distancing can be practised. Although some countries are slowly emerging from lockdown, the situation is changing regularly and we will remain watchful. We are monitoring international best practice and will of course observe official Spanish guidance. We will provide more detailed guidance for delegates nearer the time.

Q. Will the Annual Meeting take place this year?
A. Yes. We are planning for the 34th EACTS Annual Meeting to take place in Barcelona and online between 8-10 October 2020.

Q. How are you adapting the Annual meeting in light of the pandemic?
A. We are making the following changes:
– we have revised our terms and conditions so that industry and individuals can book with confidence
– we are exploring ways to ensure that parts of the Annual Meeting are available digitally
– we are keen to hear from Industry and clinicians about any changes you would find helpful

Q. Can you guarantee the Annual Meeting will take place this year?
A. COVID-19 has changed the world and therefore we are adapting too. We are planning for the Annual Meeting to take place in Barcelona and we are looking at how we can bring key parts of the event to people digitally. If COVID-19 restrictions mean we are unable to run the Annual Meeting, we will of course refund your booking fee.

Q. If the decision is made that the Annual Meeting will instead happen virtually, will the prices for symposia and exhibitor fees be discounted to reflect this venue change?
A. If the Annual Meeting does not take place physically, booking fees will be refunded in line with the Terms and Conditions.

Q. Can you advise on travel restrictions to Barcelona?
A. We are aware that COVID-19 restrictions remain in place. We will provide further advice if and when restrictions are eased.

Q. If social distancing rules are still in place in October, how will you ensure safe distances are applied?
A. We will of course adhere to advice provided by the Spanish Government. However, in any case, our team is planning the Annual Meeting with social distancing in mind. The health and safety of exhibitors and delegates is our primary concern and the venue will be set up accordingly. In practice this may mean for instance limiting attendance to some sessions, re-organising the way people gather in the exhibition area and other part of the venue, and making other changes to the social programme.

Q. What is the process for booking exhibition space this year?
A. We are pleased to be able to keep exhibition fees flat for 2020 – at the same rate as 2019. Naturally, if COVID-19 makes it impossible to run the Annual Meeting, we will reimburse booking fees in line with our Terms and Conditions.

Q. If the Annual Meeting is cancelled will EACTS reimburse travel and hotel accommodation?
A. If COVID-19 makes it impossible to run the Annual Meeting, we will reimburse delegates their fees in line with our Terms and Conditions. We would not be able to refund delegates’ travel and hotel accommodation.

The Annual Meeting is taking place in Barcelona, 8-10 October, but of course 2020 is a year like no other. Our thoughts are with all those supporting patients during COVID-19. The cardiothoracic community has played an important part with clinicians taking on new roles and industry providing vital equipment in this global emergency.

At EACTS our mission is to deliver a world class education programme for surgeons and allied health care professions. To do that, engagement and collaboration with you our industry partners is vital, especially now as we navigate through these troubled times. We are fully aware that many companies are also facing very challenging commercial pressures and, as you would expect, we are adapting the Annual Meeting in 2020.

We have changed the Terms and Conditions so that you can book exhibition space and will be able to register delegates with confidence. We are working flat out to ensure the Annual Meeting can run as planned, but if COVID-19 means the Annual Meeting is cancelled, we will refund your booking fees. I hope this gives you the confidence to book an exhibition booth with us this year.

As some people may not be able to travel, we are working to ensure that more elements of the Annual Meeting will be available digitally this year. This means we will be introducing new digital advertising opportunities for 2020 and we will provide more details on these in due course.

We recognise you may have questions and we have published some FAQs above. If you have any comments or suggestions, or would like to talk to us, please get in touch so that we can book a call. We are keen to listen to your needs so that we can ensure the 34th EACTS Annual Meeting and Exhibition work for you. If you’d like to talk to us, please just let us know via info@eacts.co.uk.

In conjunction with the Scientific Meeting, we will host an exhibition for industry partners. Companies will present the latest in cardiac, thoracic and vascular therapies, technologies and related services in an educational exhibition area. All registered participants will have the opportunity to attend the exhibition and interact with medical experts on innovations in patient care.

The EACTS trade exhibition is an important and most time efficient way to keep up to date with new to market technology, state of the art products, innovations and developments in the cardiothoracic market. For exhibiting companies, an exhibition booth enables them to meet the people that matter to their business in one place, demonstrate new products and attract interest from new prospects and existing customers.

Training Village

A number of Training Village units will be specifically set aside for Industry to organise their own ‘Hands-on’ workshops, including wet and dry labs and any other small practical sessions. These sessions do not form part of the official scientific programme of the Annual Meeting. Sessions are scheduled at pre-defined times, offered to delegates on an invitation only basis, and are restricted to a maximum of 10-15 people per session.

Other Industry opportunities

Our INDUSTRY OPPORTUNITIES section has a comprehensive list of opportunities and more information about how you can best showcase your organization at our annual meeting.  Please click HERE to view this year’s Industry Opportunities.

Satellite Symposia

A satellite symposium is a corporate or product related function at which a formal scientific presentation is made.  These are excellent educational opportunities for surgeons and industry partners alike.
