32nd EACTS Annual Meeting

EACTS is delighted to be returning to Milan, Italy to celebrate its 32nd Annual Meeting and the launch of a new 3-day programme format from Thursday 18 – Saturday 20 October 2018. Each day of the Annual Meeting will feature Techno-College, Professional Challenge Sessions, Focus Sessions, Abstract Sessions and Hands-on Training. We look forward to seeing you in Milan!

Airport –Milan has three main airports, Linate, Malpensa and Bergamo.

Milan Linate is 11km and approximately a 30 minute taxi away from the  MiCo Milano Congressi. There are coaches and buses that run regularly from the centre of Milan to Milan Linate.

Milan Malpensa is 47km and approximately a 40 minute taxi away from the  MiCo Milano Congressi. An express train runs from Malpensa to Milano Centrale.

Milan Bergamo is 43km and approximately a 60 minute taxi away from the  MiCo Milano Congressi.

Banks & Exchange – Most banks in Milan are generally open from 08:30 – 13:15 and 14:45 – 16:15. Monday to Friday Most are closed on Saturdays and Sunday

Credit Cards – Most hotels, restaurants and shops in Milan accept major credit cards.

Currency – Euro €

Electricity – The power supply in Milan is 230 volts. All sockets follow European standards. To use American-type plugs, a 220-volt transformer should be used together with an adaptor plug.

Shopping Hours – Shops are usually open 09:00 – 19:30 Tuesday to Saturday and from 15:00 on Mondays. Note that some shops take an afternoon break from around 13:00 to 15:00.

Some shops are also open on Sundays, but many will be closed all day Sunday.

Weather – The average temperature in Milan in October is quite mild at 15 °C (58 °F). Afternoons can be mild with average high temperatures reaching 19 °C (66 °F). Overnight temperatures are generally a little cool with an average low of 10 °C (50 °F).

In conjunction with the Scientific Meeting, we will host an exhibition for industry partners. Companies will present the latest in cardiac, thoracic and vascular therapies, technologies and related services in an educational exhibition area. All registered participants will have the opportunity to attend the exhibition and interact with medical experts on innovations in patient care. The EACTS trade exhibition is an important and time efficient way to keep up to date with new to market technology, state of the art products, innovations and developments in the cardio-thoracic market.  The exhibiting companies look forward to meeting the people that matter to their business in one place, to demonstrate new products and attract interest from new prospects and existing customers. The Trade Exhibition is centrally located, Mico South – Level 0.

Training Village

Exhibitors have the option to exhibit within the normal exhibition area or in the Training Village area. The Training Village is specifically set aside for Industry to organise their own ‘Hands-on’ workshops, including wet and dry labs and any other small practical sessions. These sessions do not form part of the official scientific programme of the Annual Meeting. Sessions are scheduled at pre-defined times, offered to delegates on an invitation only basis, and are restricted to a maximum of 10-15 people per session.

This year’s EACTS will be held at MiCo Milano Congressi, one of the largest conference facilities in Europe situated right in the centre of the city.

The 32nd Annual Meeting European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, Milan, Italy, 18/10/2018-20/10/2018 has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) with 23 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

Through an agreement between the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME® credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Information on the process to convert EACCME® credit to AMA credit can be found at www.ama-assn.org/education/earn-credit-participation-international-activities.

Live educational activities, occurring outside of Canada, recognised by the UEMS-EACCME® for ECMEC®s are deemed to be Accredited Group Learning Activities (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

EACCME® credits
Each participant can only receive the number of credits he/she is entitled to according to his/her actual participation at the event once he/she has completed the feedback form. Cf. criteria 9 and 23 of UEMS 2016.20.

TECHNO-COLLEGE EVERY DAY

Professor Hendrik Treede, and the New Technology Task Force have been busy shaping Techno-College into our new format.

The new three-day format provides the opportunity of including Techno-College across all three days, and to offer participants a single fee.

Techno-College will present a three hour session each day of the EACTS Annual Meeting, and will once again feature live case transmissions, live-in-a-box recordings and outward looking invited presentations.

Thursday’s session will be on how new technology can be integrated in your common practice. On Friday we will examine the Heart Team and interventional therapies and on Saturday we will focus on emerging technologies including heart failure, aortic disease, and cardioplegia strategies. The session will also feature our Lion’s Den Award presentations.

TECHNO-COLLEGE INNOVATION AWARD – THE LION’S DEN

The format of our successful Techno-College Innovation Award – The Lion’s Den has also changed with the Award finalists presenting their innovations to both the audience and a dedicated group of jurors including a surgeon, cardiologist, company CEO and venture capitalist. Submit your application now! – deadline 17 September 2018.

Statistical Methodology Training

  • Insights into clinical trials – Understanding basic concepts of clinical trials and how to deal with crossovers.
  • Analysing survival and events during follow-up – How to produce a Kaplan-Meier analysis and getting familiar with alternatives to Kaplan-Meier survival analysis.
  • Expert experiences with science: starting a new project – Planning your research project to submit to a scientific meeting and learning how to prepare and present your abstract.
  • Work in progress – This session is devoted to early-career clinicians and scientists as a platform to present their projects and preliminary results. Submit your work!
