Boulos Asfour graduated in 1989 after receiving his medical education at University of Giessen. The same year postgraduate training in cardiac and paediatric cardiac surgery at University of Muenster, Germany and was appointed as attending surgeon in 1996. In 1993, he was a visiting fellow in congenital heart surgery at The Children’s Hospital Boston, USA, under supervision of Professor Aldo Castanda and completed his research fellowship in 1996 at Johns Hopkins Hospital Baltimore, USA. In 1998, Boulos received his PhD and in 2002 the title of Professor of Cardio-thoracic Surgery. The same year he was appointed as staff surgeon at the German Pediatric Heart Center in Sankt Augustin and became Chief Surgeon in 2006.
