Mariusz Kowalewski

Mariusz Kowalewski graduated in 2013 as a medical doctor at the Nicolaus Copernicus University, Bydgoszcz, Poland and completing rotation in Universita degli studi di Milano. He began residency in cardiac surgery in A.Jurasz memorial University Hospital In Bydgoszcz and obtained PhD with thesis on local application of antibiotics in sternal wound prevention. He graduated as cardiac surgeon in 2021 from Central Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Interior, Warsaw, Poland under prof. Piotr Suwalski with his training focused on minimally invasive and arrhythmia surgery. He is now responsible for arrhythmia and LAA surgery Programme in the National Medical Institute, Warsaw, Poland. Beyond arrhythmia, his clinical and research focus is mechanical circulatory support and ECMO in complex settings of cardio- and cardio respiratory failure. He completed his training in MCS in Maastricht MUMC+ in 2019 under prof. Roberto Lorusso and later obtained Maastricht University PhD title. He was also involved in conception of Thoracic Research Centre, a multi institutional platform to promote research in cardiothoracic surgery.
