Peter Hohenberger

Peter Hohenberger is Head of the Division of Surgical Oncology and Thoracic Surgery at the Medical Faculty Mannheim, University of Heidelberg (UMM). He is a board-certified surgeon in thoracic and vascular surgery as well as in visceral surgery and surgical intensive care. Professor Hohenberger received his professional medical education at the University of Erlangen including training in psychology and pathology. Surgical qualifications were received at the University of Heidelberg where he also achieved the senior position at the Department of Surgery followed by a Professorship on Surgical Oncology at Charité, Berlin.

Further to his specialisation in the treatment of thoracic malignancies and sarcoma and soft tissue tumors, he was Chairman of the EORTC Soft Tissue and Bone Sarcoma Group and also collaborated with the GI, melanoma, and lung group since the 1980s. He was member to both, the Protocol Review Committee and the Board of EORTC for nine years and served on the faculty of the AACR/ASCO/FECS/ESMO course on Methods of Clinical Cancer Research for seven years. Professor Hohenberger was the Chairman of the 2018 Annual Meeting of the German Thoracic Surgery Society (DGT) and is collaborator of the Chinese-German Lung Cancer Forum (CGLCF).  His major research interest in the thoracic field is oriented towards using human-derived skin for reconstruction purposes of the chestwall.
